Introducing Our First-Ever Delay Effect and a New Gyraf Audio EQ

Our first ever delay effect and a 3rd Antelope-exclusive emulation of a Gyraf Audio analog unit are the latest additions to our effects library. Monitor with the two new effects in real-time when recording or use them when mixing or mastering in your DAW without adding any CPU load. Preserving the analog richness of the hardware originals, the digital emulations will add a distinct flavor to your mixes. The effects are exclusive for the Synergy Core interfaces.

Gyratec XIV – Equalizer

Gyraf Audio Gyratec XIV

Inspired by the legendary Pultec passive EQP design the Gyraf Audio Gyratec XIV uses the same parallel filter topology as its older predecessor whilst extending its versatility and capability to new staggering heights.

This modern take on the Pultec EQP offers 5 individual bands with 11 switchable frequencies per band, making a  hopping number of 55 individual frequency choices to boost or cut. In addition, each of the bands is equipped with variable “Q” and a cut/bypass/boost switch.

What makes the Gyratec XIV a true passive tube EQ is its unique parallel G14 filter design. That allows for a set of inductors and capacitors to switch in and out of the circuit combined with a tube-based makeup gain/output stage.
One of its unique qualities is the behavior of the variable “Q” setting. When a band is set to “boost”, the “Q” is rather wide. When set to “cut” however, the sharpness of the filter becomes much more narrow and aggressive, approaching a notch in extreme settings. That makes the Gyratec XIV both a powerful mastering equalizer and a precise surgical tool.

Another side effect of Gyratecs circuit topology is the subtle widening of the stereo picture when used on stereo sources. When applied on a Mix Bus that effect carves more space in the mix without any audible artifacts or phase deformation.

Here at Antelope Audio, we modeled every single component of the original hardware unit, from the inductors & capacitors to the precise impedance of the input and output transformers. We then re-built the Gyratec XIV in a digital form using its original schematics. In addition, our Gyratec XIV effect offers a mono mode of operation making it an efficient mix tool for practically any source and any situation.

Memory Cat Brigade – Delay

TAPE vs ANALOG

Both Tape & Analog delays have been favored by engineers and producers for decades. They are often described as warmer and more natural-sounding than digital delays. One uses magnetic tape to produce the delayed repeats of the signal while the other uses capacitors to recreate a similar effect. Both types tend to roll off the low and high frequencies, which makes them sit better in the mix. That gives the musical and organic feel that many of us are chasing.

PERFECT BALANCE OF THE TWO

Released in 1980, the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man pedal featured a unique marriage of both Analog and Tape delay by reproducing Tape-like echos using capacitors without the need for magnetic tape. Due to its unique circuitry, the unit was capable of producing lush, dark, and expensive-sounding delays with vibrant chorus and haunting vibrato
in a convenient small shape with plenty of controls. After being adopted by U2’s The Edge and featured on his “Sunday Bloody Sunday” hit, the reputation of the pedal quickly grew and became a must for many artists including Robert
Smith, Ed O’Brien, Arctic Monkeys’ Jamie Cook, and the late Chris Cornell. Fast-forward to nowadays, the Deluxe Memory Man has become one of the most demanded analog delays ever built.

THE ANTELOPE WAY

Like all of our creations, we took it upon ourselves to reproduce the most faithful software emulation of the Deluxe Memory Man ever made. We measured and recreated every single component of the circuit and created the Memory Cat Brigade effect using the original schematic for the Deluxe Memory Man. In addition to the accurate recreation of the behavior of all original parameters we also added a few extra features unique only to our effect such as a maximum delay time of up to 1100 ms and a Filter knob for even darker echos.

KEY FEATURES

  • • Record in real-time with near zero latency using the Memory Cat Brigade (only with Antelope
    Audio Synergy Core interfaces)
  • • Mix with the Memory Cat Brigade using our AFX2DAW plugin (up to 36 instances)
  • • Produce dark and lush tape-like delays that will sit in any mix
  • • Add more depth to your tracks with a vibrant pitch-shifting vibrato or a rich and spacious Chorus effect
