Sounds From the Desert – Abdelkrim & Tahat Art Studio

One can rarely hear such beautiful sounds recorded in so barren an environment. All the way from the Niger desert comes another sonic and cultural experience from our friends at Tahat Art Studio. In this amazing video you can hear the talented artist Abdelkrim record a deeply touching song about the everyday struggle in the life of native Nigerien people. Faced with adversity since childhood, Abdelkrim found expression through music.

The open space studio set-up includes two Verge modeling mics on the guitar, Edge Solo modeling mic on vocals and the Discrete 8 Synergy Core audio interface. The Verge is a small diaphragm modeling microphone designed to be paired with the Discrete series. With a clean design, The Verge can handle very high SPL levels of up to 146 dB and has a frequency range from 40 Hz – 20 kHz.

The Edge Solo is a single-capsule large-diaphragm condenser microphone capable of emulating some of the most iconic vintage microphones in the world with unparalleled accuracy. Though Abdelkrim’s vocals were recorded without any mic emulations, there are currently 18 to choose from. Furthermore, the Edge Solo is perfect for capturing any sound source with an impressive dynamic range of -116 dB THD+N. Made to be paired with the Discrete 8 Synergy Core’s unique 6-transistor discrete preamps for the best possible sound.
